A first class night of music from extremely talented musicians

Tiverton review, Radio Bayfm & Tonefm – Doug Parish

I went along to The Tiverton Community Arts Theatre to see And Finally… Phil Collins where they appeared on the eleventh night of their tour.

This world-class eleven-piece tribute production, named the top Phil Collins tribute band in the UK at the National Tribute Awards 2016, delivered all the classic beats of Collins including Another Day In Paradise and Find a Way to my Heart. Supporting vocalists Eddie Harper and Rhea Soulsby came into their own reaching astonishingly melodic high notes during their rendition of Easy Lover and Sussudio. We had a great version of Two Hearts showing the band to its full potential and I really enjoyed Groovy Kind of Love where front man Chris Hayward got the audience singing along with him and setting a good atmosphere in this Tiverton venue.

We had a very impressive saxophone solo from Jake Thornton who really wowed the audience from the outset, but especially in the major, much-loved One More Night. Both lead singer Chris Hayward and band producer and drummer Tim Harper really gave it all they’d got, notably during In The Air Tonight with Emily Eno on percussion demonstrating what an outstanding percussionist she is.

But it was when the band played their excellent cover of the Supremes You Can’t Hurry Love, a hit for Collins in 1982, that brought the Tiverton audience to their feet dancing in the aisles and singing along. From there onwards it was one big party atmosphere both musically and visually – a whole different league right to the end of the show with the band clearly enjoying themselves as much as the audience. It was a first class night of music from a group of extremely talented musicians who, it seemed could have taken to major stages across the world and still entertained, engaged and shocked the audience with the extent of their skills.

I am looking forward to the next show I will be covering at The Tiverton Community Arts Theatre – for more info on shows go to www.tivertontheatre.com.
